
Professor Tim Spiller joined the University of York in 2014, as founding Director of the York Centre for Quantum Technologies. He is also Director of the Quantum Communications Hub (2014-2025), within the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme. This Hub is delivering quantum communications technologies and services at all distance scales, from short range handheld devices, through secure fibre networking, to satellite quantum key distribution. Prior to this, at the University of Leeds he was Head of the Quantum Information Group and Director of Research for the School of Physics and Astronomy. Prior to 2009, Spiller was Director of Quantum Information Processing Research at HP Labs Bristol and a Hewlett-Packard Distinguished Scientist. He has spent over 40 years researching quantum theory, hardware and technologies, publishing and patenting extensively across this spectrum.
